OK... If you are willing, let's try this... As you are running IE 8...
  • Open Internet Explorer - and CLICK ON THIS LINK: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
  • Next select CUSTOM and scan
  • If a Root Certificates update is listed (possibly in the Optional Software updates category on the left-hand side of the scan results window), install it...

As well - it *could be* that you have some other AV program on your computer, which is still held in your browser sessions - BUT - we'll get to that in a while, OK??

Best to you!

John

John,

I did as you suggested and checked for any regular updates(none needed) then to the custom scan and looked in the software updates and found one concerning security certificates. I installed that software, restarted my computer, to no avail. I really thought that you had hit a home run.

I have set my computer where all of the day's history is deleted when I close it down. Also, Norton does a "cleanup" approx. every 20-30 days.

I really feel guilty taking you folks time with my computer glitch. As I stated, it does not stop me from entering the website, just is a "pain" being there on the sites that I frequent, but not all of the sites

Thank you for all of your help.

Richard

No trojans here. It's just a couple of overactive antivirus toolkits that mark normal, standard behaviour as 'suspicious'.

A way to circumvent the messages / warnings is to surf directly to the forum:

On my computer it makes no difference which way I get to the forum, the "notice" still is shown on an information bar.

I still can't replicate what you are experiencing - BUT - I know you are!! Can you take a screenshot of what you mean by "on an information bar"?

I will figure this out - somehow! Just not sure, exactly "how"??

Best to you!

John,

I am sorry, but I do not know what a screen shot is. Please forgive my ignorance on these matters.

As I look at my computer screen and type this response, just above the Luger Forum page, and below my toolbar, is this message(approx. 1/2in. high) that runs across my complete screen. It reads:

"? To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has blocked this website from displaying content with security certificate errors. Click for options"

When I click on the options, I get:
(1) Display blocked content

(2)What is the risk

(3) Information bar help

I have been through all three possibles many times, and can not get this information bar removed. As stated above, it does not show up on all of the sites that I visit, but on a fair number.

You might try going to the Windows update site and make sure your computer is fully updated with all the security and certificate downloads.

Howdy rhuff..!

When you have a second - can you run Windows Update again - and select "Custom" (as in my previous post) - and look for this optional update: KB2416400

If you see it - try installing it, and reboot your system...

Many thanks!

John,

I did as you suggested, but update KB2416400 is not available to me to install.....Sorry.

I have Microsoft Windows XP with, I believe, Windows 7 (maybe 8, but don't think so for some reason) upgrade, if that makes any difference. This is the only unit that I have ever owned, so I have nothing to compare it to.

Thank you for your time and help,
Richard
