Default Police Magazine info question

I have an Haenel Schmeisser luger magazine I would like to know more about. It is marked on the bottom with a "2" for second magazine, an eagle stamp and no serial number. Ok, so it is a police magazine. What I would like to know is this. Is this an extra mag that went out to a police armorer and they just did not bother to stamp it with a serial number? yet they stamped it as a #2 mag? So kind of confused how this process worked. Also, what time period this mag would be appropriate for issue with a luger by police? Thanks, Mark

early thirties I feel with that 'dove' stamp. Just before the nazi's took power I would say.

The #2 would tell me that it was issued to a gun, but it sure doesn't look like it was ground or even re-shaped.

Lets say it is a replacement magazine - not being numbered I find very odd, but its a nice magazine!

How'd you pick it up?

Edward you are correct that this mag bottom was never ground or reshaped. It was never stamped with a serial number. I think I picked up this mag at Ebay auction about 18 years ago.

Perhaps you can clarify something for me. I thought Luger's were typically delivered from the factory with 2 mags serialized to that Luger. Then Police armorers added number 1 and 2 to the mags and if a third mag was issued they stamped a 3 on an extra unmarked mag and usually stamped that Luger's serial number on it. If this was the protocol, then I wonder why my mag has a 2 but no serial, unless of course it was issued as a replacement for a lost #2 mag? Your thoughts or clarification? I guess this is why you said it was odd not to have a serial number. Thanks, Mark

Luger police were attributed from Mauser with the two "classic" mags , police armorer having lot of Haenel mag for extra mag
The third mag remains at the police post

I believe this magazine predates Mauser luger production, late '20s; and is of course a replacement- can't explain why it has a "2" without the pistol number. JMHO.

Police magazines were replaced, often multiple times. "Rigs" are sometimes seen with properly numbered magazines, one with a wood base and one a later aluminum base.
