Mauser Luger

I found this 70's Mauser Luger yesterday. It is a 9mm AE with all the extras plus a letter from the factory or the holding company that says it was made in 1984. But I am no sure they really did any research.

Richard, I am sure it is because your pictures are too large. Try the tutorial under the Help section. To post more than one picture you ahve to Upload, then copy and paste the link.

You can always EDIT your own posting, you click on the paper and pencil icon in your thread you want to edit. Then you can add words or pictures to a previous thread.

Hi,

Thanks for the efforts! Really interesting. I've been wondering what happened to the Mauser leftovers after 1995. It appears there's more of it still around than I thought.

It's been absorbed by the Rheinmetall defence branch.

I assume that your pistol is FBM marked therefore the year of production is not written. If you let us know the serial numer I will try to evaluate the date. Actually I have a reliable data base for the .30luger caliber but I can try with the 9mm as well.

Yes FBM marked. What does that mean?
The oneunder discussion is 11.012736 and is an AE 4 inch 9 mm. PO 8 grip.
Also have:
11.00.3733 9mm 6 inch AE Swiss grip
11.004876 9mm 4 inch AE Swiss grip
10.002195 .30 6 inch AE Swiss grip
11.013730 9mm 6 inch AE PO 8 grip

I am going to update my data base.

Actually FBM is the internal Mauser proof. It means "Firmen Beschuss Mauser". The pistols sold in Europe have the Ulm proof with date, in this way it is easier to know the date of production.
The models exported in USA are usually marked only with the FBM banner.

Do you have any information about the date of production? Are the test target dated?

None of the targets have a date. The 11.012736 has two targets both with the correct serial numbers. One I bought from Tom Heller is signed Heller, but looks like German writing to me. Did you notice in the second luger in had two periods in the serial number?

The second dot in the serial number comes with the early production. In fact this second dot was mainly used fot the prototypes and for the first production. The pistol with this second dot are scarce and the more valuable. Do you see any other difference with respect to the normal production?
Please check also the internal numbering (see the related topic on the post WWII). Let me know.

I rechecked the 11.00.3733. The two periods are on the lower half, but on the upper there is the same serial number but with only one period. In appearance it is the same as the others. I see no internal numbers. The serial no. 10.002195 has a front sight different from the others. The back of the front sight come straight down for about 1/3 of the distance before slanting to the rear. All the other front sights just slant to the rear. Hope this helps.

The fact that the frame has two dots and the fork only one means that the frame has been numbered before the fork. In the first pistols both the frame and the fork have the number with two dots. You pistol is a transitional model whit the new pattern applied to the fork and the old one still applied to the frame. I really appreciate if you can post some photos of the two serial numbers. Thank you for that.

Nice one!
Your pistol is interesting. As I told you before this is a transitional model built using "old" frame with early numbering (double dot) and "new" receiver fork with with standard numbering (one dot).
