Default Best First Book

Looking for a recommendation or three for a good first "primer" on Lugers.

I've got a modest "collection" of good 9mms....Walther (all but an 88); Sigs, S&Ws, and Berettas and all the German Police pistols except the H&K P7 and Astra 600 (I hate recoil and I shoot all I own). Both the 88 and P7 are a bit too rich for my budget.

BUT....I'd be willing to break the piggy bank for a Luger, it's just so iconic, has so much history and, yeah, looks so cool.

So I'd like to read up first and then buy....unless I find a deal, then maybe I'll buy first and read later.....

Looking for a simple shooter.....well used is fine as long as it works perfectly, shoots straight, and won't cause me to sell a grandkid.

So, if I may be so bold, where do I begin? (and I suspect folks get weary answering this question....I try and help newbies on the Walther & S&W boards...so I know how frequently this question gets asked.)

Luger at Random. Available on Amazon.com and many other places. It's an old book.

www.amoskeagauction.com will sell some Lugers at beginning of June. You may want to take a look at their catalog.. they have typical samples.

www.morphyauctions.com also listed some in June session.

There are many many more auction houses. You may find 88 and P7 there too. Could be very cheap.

www.rockislandauction.com has lots of German pistols for sale in June.

John Walter's new edition of "Luger - The Story of the World's Most Famous Handgun" has a good history of the Luger. Updated in 2016, it's from "The History Press".
