Default Help!

Hi
I am a new boy to the forum, and need some help!
Can anyone tell me what these marks mean on the front strap of this p08?
Are they added fakes?
Any help would be great.
Many thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum!
Your image is too small to make anything of it. Please just spell out the stampings, indicating if anything is in upper or lower case. Include all dots, crossed out characters and anything else you see.

To answer your question, these stampings, if proper, are real and indicate issue to a particular unit. They could increase the value of your pistol if the unit is rare or unusual.

Default markings

Apologies

The markings read :

S.S. p. II.2.1 3 S.S. 343. ( the 343 is in smaller font)

See if this works:

Default markings

The numbers on the top of the barrel read 1930 above 1918.

You're posting thumbnail pictures rather than the actual full images.

Hard to see any detail. Get images at least 1024 pixels wide and post them.

I can't seen enough detail, but in any case this would not be the "RHSA". The marks are probably Prussian region Weimar period for the Schutzpolizei in Schneidemuhl district. I don't know why the "S.S." was double stamped. Perhaps re-issued to another unit within the district. Generally the last number in the sequence is the individual weapon number issued to a unit.

You can learn details about this kind of marking here:

http://www.radix.net/~bbrown/police_unit_marks.html

There are others on the board with a great deal more background on unit markings that might have more correct information than I do.

Is it possible that the numbers on top of the receiver are "1920" over "1918". If so, it would be a 1918 manufactured Luger with a "1920" Weimar property mark (not a date).

Default P08

Many thanks for your help. I will try to get the hang of the image thing as I go along! This has been a good "opening shot" on the forum.

The first marking S.S.P.II.2.13. probably is from the early Sicherheitspolizei of the Schneidemühl district and was applied about 1919-20. The second marking S.S.343. is an updated marking for the Schutzpolizei of the Schneidemühl district in conformance with revised marking instructions issued in 1932. They are not fakes - there's no money in faking police markings. Similar markings are illustrated in Chapter 11 of History Writ in Steel. Be careful in using the web site listed above. It contains numerous errors.

May we know the serial number and suffix of this gun and whether or not is has or had a sear or mag safety?
