Default Why some Lugs are ground off....

Why some Stock lugs are ground off....Just after WW-2, many police officers thought that it was illegal to have a stock lug on a Luger pistol. It was, in fact, illegal to have the gun with lug AND the stock. The ATF considered this a 'sawed-off rifle" and classed it the as being in the same class as possessing a MG or Sawed-off rifle. [felony]

Many C96's had the slot filled in with brass..and the Luger lugs were ground off.

For many years, you could buy a Luger or broom with wood but the stock attachment medal would be 'found and mailed to you' later...

When the Curio and Relic list classified them as OK...then, mysteriously, many folks found the attachment iron in a drawer...or, under the bed!
