1943 SS Luger???

According to Albert Speer, in his book Infiltration (Macmillian 1981), Himmler had specific plans to use 2000 Jewish inmates of the Neuengamme concentration camp to manufacture P08s at a camp factory to be built at the end of 1942. This would have been part of Himmler's plan to create a rival armaments industry that would be under his control using inmate labor.

The factory was never built for many reasons, some of which were due to the fact that it conflicted with Hitler, Goebbels, and Bormann's extermination plans for the Jews. If the factory was built, it could possilbly have saved the lives of some doomed Jews and other inmates like Shindler's armament factories did.
