NFA weapons to a degree. Since transferrable examples were cut off in May of 1986, they have appreciated a Thousand fold, in some cases. As people discover that they can indeed own these weapons and that they are not all "illegal", their value has skyrocketed.

I have read Mike Krause's name mentioned before; always favorable comments. The cost of cleaning your Luger (which I'm pretty sure is all he did) seemed to me excessive; any Luger I get in gets cleaned regardless. But after reading what G.T., ithacaartist, and others here charge/pay for Luger service, I may have to re-think my pricing...

John S's comments on Mauser bump omission/Swiss 'upgrades', and the sideplate hump (I like the Swiss ones) makes me also re-think my valuation of the 1970's Mauser Lugers, especially the 30 cal models...

Alan:
I agree on the NFA weapons, and it is to the point that I'm reluctant to shoot mine. However that is an unusual, artificial situation created soley by the change in law, supply and demand. If the gov't. hadn't stopped the supply, would 1921 Thompsons bring $50K?
What about normal appreciation vs. actual buying power? I'm doubting that much has appreciated enough to consider a good investment. Maybe some artwork, of which I have absolutely no expertise or knowledge; I'm doubtful about P-08's; gold shot up but I'm not sure that given the erosion of the buying power of the dollar, if that is even in the + column. Farmland?
But I guess I'm rambling. And hijacking an otherwise interesting thread...
