Post 1917 DWM unit marked

This came in yesterday. I traded my Lithuanian HP to FGS for it. Some of you may have seen it posted on their site. A nice 1917, in 95%+ cond. and unit marked to 164th Infantry Regiment. The one draw back was that after I got it I noticed that the side plate had been force matched. A 35 changed to 75. As it was stated as "All Matching". I contacted FGS, and pointed this out. After 2 or 3 e-mails on the subject. I received a phone call from Doug Smith, indicating that he had'nt noticed that it was over struck. He apologized. And the problem is being corrected ASAP, with a proper side plate.
Outstanding service! (In my opinion.) Excellent gentleman to do business with. And I can't recommend Doug Smith and Ken Clark at FGS inc. highly enough. I am happy!

Just wanted to share it, and maybe brag just a skosh...!

Ron

Hi Ron,

Nice looking LP-08...1917 is that odd year. I think they start out with both fine-tune adjustable front and rear sight, then switch to a fixed front sight and the fine-tune rear sight, and then finally fixed front and rear sights. If I recall correctly all of the 1918's have both fixed type sights...only.

Maybe George Anderson or others know the serial numbers (i.e. ball-park) at which the 1917's started to change....

Regards,

Pete...

Pete, Thanks. This one has an ajustable rear and fixed front. Missed it in the photo.

John, I have seen you mention "Dad and Dave Ind." before. What is the significance? I've never heard it mentioned any place else.

Thanks! Ron

The british mark their military equipment W^D for "War Department", the Australian's use the marking D^D for "Defence Department".

"Dad and Dave" are a series of comical stories set on a small selection in the Australian Outback, nothing much seems to go right for this crew.

Australian soldiers habitually refer to the D^D marking on their government issue kit as the "Dad and Dave Industries" marking.

Ron,
You're probably most likely to see D^D on Lithgow made .303's or on a Martini .310.
I would think that this marking on a Luger would be "as rare as rocking horse poo" in your part of the world.
Unfortunately, due to Mr Howard's constant war on recreational gun ownership in this country, D^D on a Luger, or indeed a Luger itself is now almost "as rare as rocking horse poo" in this part of the world.

John, That's a terrible shame. I wonder if we could get golf clubs banned. And then listen to the bastards scream. I would like to do a study on how many people have died on golf courses?

I feel for the Australian gun enthusiasts. Ron

On a lighter note. That reminds me. My very best friend, more like an older brother, is from western North Carolina. They are mountain people, true "Hillbillies". Charlie hunts with muzzleloading rifles, which he builds. He does beautiful work.
One day, Charlie and I were discussing the merits of golf, over a couple of cold ones. Charlie blurts out in a strong NC accent,"Ah'd druther shewt my balls, than hit 'em with a stick!" And I believe, I would have to agree!

Have a good day! Ron
