Post WTFO?

I write a lengthy, thoughtful and detailed reply to a post, press the "go" button, everything shivers, and my post is gone into the waygoneasphere.
Whats up?

Tom, I don't know for sure, but maybe you reached the limit on charectors, so it just dumped it instead of posting? Because the little posting worked?

I have had this happen on the rare occassion also? Those damn gremlins?

Hi Folks....

If Tom's message was too long - he would have gotten a error note, and returned back to the screen to make an edit (shorten it..).? It wouldn't have "dumped" it..?? Tom, do you know while you were writing it - if your ISP connections stayed "on-line"? The only thing that comes to mind, is while you were typing, the connection was lost, and when you hit the post button - something went "out"..??

Hmmmm....??? Let me think about what else may have caused it? I'll also check on my end..??

Tom, this has happened to me three or four times in the last few weeks. I thought I was being edited by someone. I sent you a couple of phone numbers, call me when you get in.

Wasn't edited by me I try to leave a note if I change something, John S., always leaves a note, John D, well he is running around like a chicken mit its head cut off .

I can't say for other moderators, but I doubt that they are likely to delete without leaving a "paper" trail,

Tom,

There is an inexpensive software application called "Go Back" that you might want to consider. It allows you to restore your PC back to a few minutes ago, an hour or so ago, or even days ago...you chose.

Comes in handy when you loose work...

The new MS Windows XP gives you this feature called "Restore"...if you are upgrading to XP soon...

Regards,

Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />

For any lengthy post, I always compose it in MS Word then copy and paste (via right clicking) into the forum text window. For back-up, you could also write it in the forum text box and then copy it (once again, right clicking after selecting it all) to your clip board memory buffer.

And Pete, the Go Back feature will not work unless you save the writing to hard drive at some previous point.

It’s also a good idea to back-up all important data. Jan Still sent me an e-mail that all the user names and passwords had been deleted from his site. That hacker was an insidious bastard.

By the way, am I the only one here who knows what “WTFO” means? Trust me, that is one hell of a rude remark.

Heydrich,
You are not the only one who knows what that means. Yes, it is a bit rude. Those of us who have been in the military have been exposed to this expression, just like a lot of other less than polite terms. Thank goodness only the acronym is being used. I do not think any rudeness was intended. Sometimes we forget (myself included) that our audience does not have the same experience as we do. It doesn't make the user a bad guy, just a little forgetful of how far this forum reaches.

Heydrich, Ron...I would guess there are appropriate times to use these strong words and after writing a lengthy article and losing it to cyberspace might be one of those. Tom is a fellow Paratrooper and understandably that is no excuse but we can all be glad he was no Sailor....A few rough men stand between us and tyranny. Jerry Burney

Jerry,
I wasn't putting down any "rough man". I totally understand strong feelings. Unfortunately I was relegated to be a REMF, so I am not entitled to malign anybody. We all did what we could. I hope my language doesn't make me a bad guy either, just expressing a strong feeling.

All,
I repent my use of offensive abbreviations; if I offended anyone inadvertently, I apologize sincerely. I always want to be direct, deliberate and willful when I offend, to ensure the *right* person is offended and not some innocent by-stander. To do penitence, I shall wash my mouth out with ethanol.

Tom,
Sounds like a good idea, I will roust out my nectar of penitence. May I join you in a toast, good Sir? "To those of us who have been there and came back. May all of our comrades in arms today be so fortunate".

To My Friends on the Forum, AND JOHN D (this MoFo is going crazy as I try to compose this post)

I lift my glass of penitence, like Socrates, but instead of hemlock, it is a dram of Jefferson Reserve. John D. is familiar with this elixir that washes away sins and makes us as little lambs.
And to the esteemed Mr. P-Ron Wood-38, I am humbled, sir, to have to converse with someone of your stature. That you would voice your encouragement I consider a compliment of the highest order. As my second son is lately returning fro SOF m his second middle eastoes completely nutz.

WTFO??

THIS is why I sent the WTFO message...the system periodically quivers, moves textaround the email and then g

And, in closing, I might suggest that should anyone take offense, perhaps they should consider contemplating my Korean helicopter unit's unofficial motto: YFOAD.
