Plastic grips

I recently blundered into a discussion on Luger black plastic grips and the value of originals. Going through my potpourri of oddments in shoeboxes in my workroom, I rediscovered these. Have no recollection where I obtained them, but it was at least 35 or 40 years ago. Thought I might have swapped them for wooden ones on my one P.08, but found its wooden grips number match the pistol.

With trepidation I subjected the grips to the dread hot pin test. Passed with flying colors, which is more than the lighter did! Off to next month's Louisville show. Perhaps shall trade even for a U.S. test Luger....

I have the same grips,just pulled them to check. Mauser 42 chamber date, byf toggle #6849a all matching don't know how to rate bluing as one mans 92% is another mans80% (until he buys it) then it becomes 92% again.

I picked up a pair of white checkered plastic grips for my shooter luger a couple years ago. They fit the luger's frame quite well but I had to file down a couple rough spots where they rubbed on the base of my thumb. They are made of some very tough, hard material that is difficult to work on. They are good grip panels however.

I ordered a pair of black plastic luger grips about 10 days ago and received them today. They are well made and appear very well on my 42 byf luger. I gave $21 plus shipping for the pair and installed them on the luger this afternoon. (The original wooden panels I just removed are well fitted to the luger and are good and snug. There is a "C" stamped on the back side of each wooden panel. Would anyone know the meaning of the C stamp?)
Anyway back to the black plastic grips. The rib on the top of the right plastic panel is just a bit too thick to fit into the milled recess of the frame. I believe a little careful work with a fine file could narrow the rib thin enough to fit into the recess. After I fit the right panel into the recess, I'll take some pics of the 42 byf and my 41 byf for comparison of the two. The 41 byf is 100% original with original black Bakalite grip panels. I have original P08 black leather holsters dated 1941 and 1942 for each luger.

I am not a plastic gun guy
Do not possess any polymer guns - steel please
Not a fan of plastic grips
Did get Pachmayr rubber grips for a couple of guns when I was competing seriously
But did not like them and now they are back to the original wood grips
Got an Erma - yecht plastic grips
Able to replace them with wood grips I got from Ithacaartist - Thank you
So now a house of steel and wood - and a happy camper

The current bakelite grip fad is hilarious. Guys are paying unbelievable prices for plastic grip Lugers, and ignoring the wood gripped ones. The grips themselves are bringing prices in the stratosphere. It reminds me of the cabbage patch dolls. Lemmings.

Kiwi ---- I'm not a plastic gun guy or aluminum guy either. If it isn't steel I don't have a use for it. I also can't believe the prices people are paying for "Black Widow" (BW) luger grips. The black plastic grips I picked up recently were just to match up to the so called BW original luger (byf 41) that I've had since 1967. I'm not trying to make up the byf 42 in my safe to be another BW but the two look good together.
