Interesting grips on Auction site...

I just saw this Luger on AA.....those grips are unusual......anyone know what that badge is???...and if it is genuine

??

It's a nazi party association pin of some sort. I believe for a regional division of the D.V.G. I do not, however, know what the D.V.G. was.

I am sure it is a genuine pin but the grips are not. Typical swastika dressed up war trophy from a G.I.

Hello friends,
the inscription of the batch means the membership of

Deutsche Volksgemeinschaft Westmark ( Lothringen ) ( DVG )

"Westmark" was the German name of the eastern parts of France after the occupation by the Germans,
"Lothringen" is the original name of an industrial area in east France at the border to Germany used in France as well as in Germany till today and was a part of the so called “Westmark” .

Thanks for that explanation...Hans-Peter! Another Luger mystery has been solved... What would have been the original purpose of this disk that was added to this Luger? A lapel pin, or a tie tack perhaps?

Hello John,
sorry but I donÃ?Â´t know what was the purpose of this disk.
It could have been what it shows, a presentation luger from the commercial field fitted with this type of grips and the badge as an inlay, but this is only a rougth estimation and i could be totally wrong.
Maybe one of our other German friends have a better idea.

The "DVG Westmark-Lothr" pin was initially distributed to the Federation of German Ethnic groups in Alsace-Lorraine. It was originally produced for German citizens living in the Elass-Lothringen countryship of Westmark, but was likely distributed to German Colonists in other regions too. I say this beause of the sheer numbers of these pins produced. It was the same size (24mm) as the NSDAP party membership badge and was another way for Germans away from home to declare "we belong" during those fast paced years prior to September 01, 1939. The badge is one of the most copied of all and W. Redo, the original maker, is said to still be producing them. The liklihood that this badge was ever officially attached to this Luger for any presentation purpose is slim to none. It's more likely a post-war effort at value enhancement.
