I have recently been given a luger by a relative who brought it back fron germany during the war.It is a G date S/42 with a 3 didget ser #. The bluing is in fantastic shape and does not apear to have seen much if any use.There are no army acceptance marks on the gun

Hello John,

To give a value over the net is always difficult, but some more information is needed to be able to give you a rough estimate.

With any Luger, condition is everything and although the gun may look like it is all matching, a changed part on it brings the value down drastically and puts it into the shooter category, making it worth between $350 and $500. If it has been reblued, nickled, badly scratched or rusted, this will usually make it into the shooter category.

On the other hand, I have been slowly gathering together information on guns brought back from te war, Lugers, pistols, rifles etc. So, if you send me pictures and stories, I'll collect them up and try to make a nice booklet about them.

If I can paraphrase what was in a book, "even Luger's not thought of a collectors piece, have history to them". I mean, these Lugers that have been chromed, I'm interested in, those with a bit of rust, it is that way because it was carried daily through 3 years of battles. I am interested in it. I find this the fascinating part of collecting, those guns that have history, those with true capture papers and stories our fathers told us.

Those mismatched pistol with no real story, where you picked it up and you don't know a story, I'm not interested in. I need real stories, of real guns.
