1915 Luger, what to look for
Friend is interested in buying a 1915 Luger, this is a picture of it taken last night, the offered price is $1400 down from $1600, I'm not sure it's worth it considering the mag doesn't have the correct base, which I'm sure he could buy,
What should we look for, on the frame under the serial number it's stamped GERMANY, on top the date is 1915 the SN appears to be 8938 , the lever under the SN has a 38 only, the trigger doesn't appear to be blued not does that first lever, We've been told the levers should be strawed I presume that means not blued, any help on determining what to look for or what it's worth would be helpful or if it's a parts gun, it's his first investment into Lugers Should 38 be stamped on the frame above the trigger in the large square area as well? At least others I've seen pictured are stamped with the last two of the SN in that position. |

It's a mismatch or has been manipulated... Side plate is missing a number. Military Lugers would not have the "GERMANY" import mark, which is more likely stamped on a Alphabet Commercial frame. Safety lever should be strawed. Grip has the million dollar chip. Font of digits on the receiver don't look like DWM dies to me.
Is this one in 9mm or .30 Luger caliber? As a mismatch it may be worth $600 if it functions properly. Certainly would not be collectable if my observations are correct. Marc

A mismatch. It looks like someone tried to number the upper to the frame.
Worth around $600, as mentioned. |
