Question byf 42 and holster inquiry

When I think about the question I am about to ask it is no doubt a real stretch but here goes.
I am in possession of a byf42 Luger and its original holster, both in very good condition. The weapon has all matching numbers (except for the two mags) and on the back of the holster you can plainly see the stampings of the manufacturer, the inspectors stamp and the words P.08. It seems to me that it is a worthy collectors piece.
The question I have is....I know that this weapon was a vet bring back and on the inside of the holster flap the original owner (not the veteran) carved their initials "H H". I was wondering if there was a site I could get to that carried an inventory that might tell me who the weapon may of been issued to or perhaps its history?

Thanks.....

Red face

No sorry, even before the war progressed, individual units issued gear to their soldiers, airman and navy. So at the unit level items may have been issued to someone, but those records, if any, are long gone. Even if you found records from a unit they may not have had the weapon for very long. As an example, a soldier on the eastern front going over to a different theatre usually turned in their weapons and were issued new or re-issued weapons at the new unit.
So a holster might have several different users. The history is there, but only if luck, such as you found out it was brought back by a GI and he got it in a supply depot or took it off of a german in the artillery. Unless told to the original vet, it is highly unlikely you will find out anything.

sorry

Talking

Hey, but nice pictures of the holster, pistol and any story of how you got it?

That would be cool.
