Adjustable front sight

Quick question,

I know adjustable front sights are found on artillery luger barrels...but are they used on standard barrels? Can such front sights be installed on standard barrel and be used correctly?

The front sights on all Lugers are adjustable, they are a friction fit and can be moved from side to side with a special tool or tapped with a brass punch. My advice though, is don't mess with them.

Oops, I meant the screw adjustable front sights.

The screw adjustable sights on artillery models only work because the sight base has been machined and drilled and tapped to accept the adjustment screw. No reasonable (economically feasible) way to install them on a standard barrel unless you do your own machine shop work.

I think nothing more can be added, but this reminds me of a colleague of mine that several years ago attempted to make some sort of adjustments to the front sight of his luger, and just ended up with a real mess; thank God it was just an old and rusty mismatched shooter.

So probably it's better if you leave it alone.

I would never attempt such a feat on an original barrel.

However I DO need an artillery barrel, I'll just make sure I get one with the adjustable front sight screw. Are they harder to find in that configuration?

I was told that the mid 1917 Artillerys had bouth front and rear
fine tune sight adjustment on them.
