If you want a WAG, I would say that it is a buffed and reblued (over pits and dings) 1900 American Eagle that was presented to somebody who served on the municipal police force in Guadalajara from 1971 to 1973. Is it a good buy?...No. Maybe at half the "buy it now" price, but that's a stretch.

Ron, Well, That's pretty much what I thought....I am not too knowledgable about these early pistols. Imperial pistols are more down my line. Thanks for your opinion. I am sure it is spot on. Jerry Burney

Seriously though, what a load of crap that seller is spewing! <img border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" title="" src="graemlins/cussing.gif" /> Look in the blue book and it's pretty easy for a complete novice to deduce that the AE is not the symbol for Mexico! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> It retains 70% it the blue (re-blue) it should honestly say! I think this guy has been in the California sun tooo long.

Bottom line is you have to get it for about $400 in order to have Ted refinish it and Hugh fix the grip. Then you would have something worth having! <img border="0" alt="[soapbox]" title="" src="graemlins/soapbox.gif" />

Obviously the seller or this item appears ignorant of AE Lugers in general and this item in particular. Imagine confusing the eagle crest with the "crest of Mexico"! I posted on the Forum some time ago a similar 1900 that still resides in Mike Krause's shop here in San Mateo. It has the same marking on the barrel top and is not reblued. It's in pretty lousy shape and the machanism is very loose. Would hate to see what happened if it had a 7.65 round put through it! The only response I received was that Krause's particular 1900 did NOT have the police marking when it was imported into the USA. Presumably, several "surplus" 1900 AE's were sold to the police force of Guadalajara and ended up this way. How many, no one apparently knows as no further replies came forth to my posting.

No Ed, it has been relisted with a "Buy Now" feature of "only" $2400! The seller has now been "informed" that the dished toggles were on the "rare test lugers". I hope whoever "informed" him of the new information should continue to inform him. Until we get the serial number, we will never know. I guess even a test piece could have somehow ended up with the Guadalajara gendarmes.

I believe that Dished Toggles and the Old Frame were abonded prior to the 1906 AE issue so this must be a 1900 or 1902 AE (Possibly a Commercial Model ?)
Now My question;
Were there any 1900 commercial series with the "AE" sold after the "Test Eagle Series" was completed ?

Production of 1900 American Eagles continued well past the US Test series, up to around the 20,000 serial number range.

I guess that would mean that the chances of it being a "Test Eagle" would run below
500 to 1 "NO".
Thats almost "Less than No Chance At All" in my book.

I e-mailed him, he is pretty insistant that it is an original (non-reblued) AE, not sure if he is still believing it is a test piece, i asked him the serial number and he didn't reply.

With that serial number (19xxx),
it's absolutely no test-eagle, but rather an early commercial.
