Your byf 42 would be just as authentic in a 1941 holster as well as a 1942. Of course, in nice condition either one is quite expensive.

Any P08 military holster could have held your luger during WW2. The holsters were randomly mated to lugers and I have seen 1941 lugers in 1915 holsters and various other combinations as were retrieved from piles of dropped guns at surrender points during the war.

Dan, my personal quest was for a minty 1938 to go with my minty plum S/42 1938. I found one after two years of really looking (see attached picture of it) ! I ended up presenting it to my father in law for his, so I am back to square one! I have some nice holsters but only a 1938 will do, as far as I am concerned for my beauty! I am AR (second word is Retentative) when it comes to his point! I am patient, I can wait and hunt! Heck, the hunting is a big part of the joy! I really like Luger holsters! They are a collection piece in themselves but what a glory they go with such a great pistol! ~Thor~

Default After you find your holster, then what?

When you guys finally get your "matched" outfits together, then what? Do you store the gun in the holster, or store them separately? Not much satisfaction if you can't keep them together!

Marvin:

Store them separately. I never store firemans in a case; there's no way for the humidity to excape.

When leather is cured, salt is used in the curing process. Salt is bad for Lugars and other small metal objects that go "bang".

Of course the gun and holster must be stored separately, but it is a real drawback when you are doing a "show and tell" about your "complete matched outfit." First you get the gun from one place, the holster from another, and then you dig out the tool and spare mag. By this time the whole thrill is kind of dampened.

Agreed, but there is no real way to know you have a match unless you know its a bring back. ie. my freind has a 1916 rig his grandfather brought back from WWI extra mag etc. Now let's say he sells it to someone and they in turn sell it to someone else. You will never know for sure its a match after it leaves his hands. So, its the next best thing I guess.
