new holster - commercial ?

was traveling this week and stopped at a local gun shop during the day (don't worry I was still on a phone conference call)

Saw a commercial dwm, decent shape, $995

Saw a nicer 1917 erfurt, it was $1195, front gripstrap wear but a nice matching externally gun. With it was this holster.

It appears to have a GI cut on the front, although it sure doesn't look like it was messed with on the edges

the rear strap on the right is a different color from the inside it does not look like it was replaced

and the most interesting thing, it has a distinct makers marking, but no waffen (its WW2 style) and even pulling up the rear strap it appears like nothing was ever stamped, nor on the inside.

oh, and messed with or not, I got it for $75 out the door

I wonder if this could be an East German holster? The way the front scalop is cut out is certainly similar to the early hardshell DDR Police holsters. Also, Poessneck is located in Saxony in the former East Germany.

That would be nice, it does appear original.

The story of course was that the erfurt and the holster were Vet bring backs, but, well, you know?

the lack of any military markings made me go hmmm.

Ed, Gently look under the tops of the belt loops for a date? OH! I just read where you already did..Hard to say..well you didn't over pay for it!

Here is an example of the DDR hardshell P.08 holster for the Volkspolizei. Notice that it does not have the standing loop on the front for the strap and that it does have a similar angular cut to the front opening on the holster. Take a close look at the buckle for the strap. These later ones tend to be a bit less "Beefy" than the WWII roller buckles.

I've seen the non-matching belt loops on WWII dated holsters as well. Wonder if they just grabbed what was in the pile or what?

That right loop looks like a replacement to me. Wrong width, stitching does not line up correctly. Is the thread the same? Interesting holster anyway. Bill

Bill, You have a sharp eye for sech a young feller! Yes..Ed's right belt loop is a total replacement. The loop is way too wide and even so whoever put it on misplaced it over to the left leaving the mark of the previous loop for all..well Bill..to see!

The maker..Earnhardt Possneck was a very prolific Luger holster maker. you can bet they made it right the first time.
