Besides holdopen what was done at recall?
When the hold opens were first installed, what, if anything else, was done to the Lugers? I was looking closely at my 08 with low serial without suffix that had hold open added and noticed that there was a proof on the front sight, a small crown over letter and wondered what was done when the pistols were recalled. I also noticed that the witness mark is wider than on my later 1916 and that there is a bit less blue on the barrel on the its ring next to the frame.
Thanks, Jon |

John, it is possible that your Luger was rebarrelled at the time of installation of the hold open.

Jon,
According to John Walter The Luger Book p.213, the Kriegsministerium decreed in 1913 that new front sights, in height 15.4mm, would replace the original front sights when P-08 were returned to Erfurt to have the holdopen added. The inspector's mark on your sight certifies that this modification has been made. --Dwight |

That makes sense about the sight as it's proof is like the other hold open proof, ie Erfurtlike. The barrel is original, has its original number and has the early DWM slash shield proof and of course is a 1st issue DWM 08. Thanks for the imput.
