Default 1906 cross in shield marks

What markings are original to the cross and shield pistols? What marks are on a "rework" pistol? Several books I have give conflicting info.

IF I'm reading Gortz & Sturgiss correctly, the cross-in-sunburst was last used at serial number 9000 of the 00/06 model. On the left side of the receiver should be +/V and then a small Swiss Federal cross. A small Swiss Federal cross should also appear on the left side of the barrel and on the back of the frame. The +/V was the inspection mark of Major Vogelsang who retired in 1912.

From serial number 9001-15215 (the end of DWM Lugers provided to the Swiss due to the war), the cross-in-shield was used.

As far as "rework" stamps, I'm not familiar with any that the Swiss may have used.

Below is my cross-in-shield 00/06 that was assembled by W+F in Switzerland from parts provided by DWM in 1910. The markings should be the same as on the earlier cross-in-sunburst.

How much of an effect in value would an import company mark almost the full length of the underside of the bbl do to a pistol in vg shape with vg straw, blue, all numbers match, and proper magazine? Price was $1895, I'm hesitant due to import mark.

IMO - FWIW - that doesn't sound like such a bad price IF the bore is excellent. It may be slightly high but still reasonable. Hard core collectors don't care for the import marks but sometimes they are unavoidable.

If you go to the Simpson Ltd website and look for similar Swiss Lugers, you may find the $1895 is not a bad price. Do keep in mind that Simpson is generally high but a very reputable dealer.

I agree with Doubs, that Simpson's is not a bad place to look for something. One may pay a pretty good price for that "something", but one gets what they say it is. They are, in my experience, knowledgeable and respectable, and I have done business with them a number of times. As to the the price for the one you describe, Roadster, it doesn't sound too bad to me, either, based upon what you're telling us.

Decided not to purchase at asking price. That 3 inch long scar in the blueing is too much for me. He would not consider a lower offer. Thanks for the replies!
