I admit they need to pay a little closer attention to some details..Magazine fit is indeed critical. Funny thing though..I bought a drum from a guy who swore it wouldn't fit in any Luger he had and it slipped right into mine. That's why the Germans numbered magazines I guess.

I had no trouble with mine in my 1917 Artillery Luger I loaded
32rd and shot all 32rd with out a jam.After the last round the
hold open did not hold the bolt open because the cut out on
the drum tube is a tad to high,but no big deal as I was not in combat and did not have another loaded and readey to go.
I love my repo drum for what it cost me along with the repo
loader.

I would not order anything from Nurmich arms. all I ever got from them was junk or unuseable. There barrel blanks were junk, no quality control whatsoever. However I did get a nice book from them.

I have said the same thing about Sarco for years..I ordered a part and it looked as though a cave man hammered it out. None of these outfits are known for original quality.

The glory years for both Sarco and Numrich Arms are long past. The mountains of surplus parts they had in the 60,70,80s have all but dried up, so repro parts are often what they offer. I used to visit both extensively back in the 70s. They would actually let you in the back where you could sift through dozens, if not thousands of spare parts in bins so that you could pick out exactly what you needed. There was no "grading service" until much later. I picked up a lot of early manufacture M1 Carbine and Garand parts that way, which I used to restore arsenal rebuilt guns back to their WW2 configurations.

There is no one answer to that question, unfortunately. Staying connected to like-minded persons, via these forums, is a good start. Our own LugerDoc has a lot of parts and knowledge, posting your needs in the "wanted" sections helps, then there is always E-bay and GB.com, etc.
The parts will always be out there, and the .net does make the world smaller, however the quest continues.

Klaus..No it appears original. Just a tad expensive. I was comparing this original to the availability of a good reproduction from Numrich Arms.

For most shooters this original is not affordable..and very nice reproduction loaders have been scarce up until now.

I just wanted to update you all on the second repro. snail drum that I received from Numrich on about 10/1/2013. It appears to be of the same quality as the first, as in not perfect but at least interesting and functional.
There is an uneven gap in the mag. body and the cover plate towards the bottom edge, but you have to look pretty close.
As for function, I was doubting that it would be long enough in the main channel to hold standard length ammo. This one will not hold my normal 1.174" FJM reloads (or factory stuff), but it will accept stuff down around 1.12" OAL, so I can squeeze rounds down to fit.
I took it to the local range fully loaded, and it went well, with one stove pipe, but even that one is probably not the mag's fault, possibly gun or ammo. length issue. Of course no last shot hold-open.
I dearly wish that they would send those out with the keeper slot not finished, because they put it too high, causing the mag. to hang just a bit low, negating the hold-open device. If they let us finish filing the slot out to fit our pistols, this would work, but once they punch it out too high, there is no fixing it.
But overall I'd say that this is a keeper. It could be better at virtually no addl. cost of manufacture, but it beats paying for, and risking breaking, an original. And the loading tool really is slick.
I'm not certain if this one is better than the first one that I did return, but I could get rounds into this one, so it certainly seems better. Whether it has been corrected OR if I've just figured out how to load it is still up for debate...

The slot for the mag catch can be tig welded and recut. Not that big of a deal if you know someone who is talented at tig welding small objects......
