A friend asked me to find out about his luger. Attached are some pictures for the pro's on the board. He is interested in an approximate value, and whether or not it is a shooter or a collectible.Told him I would submit it to the experts. Comments please. I know (at least think) the magazine is not a period magazine. Notice the square cut bottom, extruded, blued tube and the bakalite base. One side of the base is broken off. The barrel is marked Bo 31, and the bore is fair to good.

you really didn't take as many photos needed to make assessment. It looks to be a military issue WWI era. Most likely DWM 1913-1914. It looks to have halo's on the barrel stampings, so it might be original. The BO-31 stands for BÃ?Â¶hler steel and the 31 is the hardness mark

Can you photo left side close up, top and any other markings you see.
the Magazine appears to be an extruded WWII type with a replacement base.

I stand with Jamese initial assessment. WW1 vintage DWM (1914) and it looks like the original finish to me. The magazine is indeed the best kind to own for function, but is WW2 in origin and needs a new bottom...

Pretty nice shape for 104 years old!

Don O, I have perfect black plastic mag bottom repro parts available @$35 + $3 S&H, if desired. The correct mag for this luger would be a folded tin plated tube with a wood bottom with the full serial number of the pistol. TH

Don, As Jim & John have said it's not enough to really say for certain. It certainly looks to have strong possibilities. Looks original and unmessed with. I would say in the collectable catagory untill you find a mismatched part! You will have to do a thorough internal inspection.
Grips look fine..All it needs is a good wood bottom mag.

An accurate value is impossible without more information. It could be a $700 shooter or a $1500 collector piece. If you do determine it is all matching..DO NOT shoot it! A broken part or grip will immdiately cut the value drastically.

The mag you show is sort of beat up. It might be salvageable with the proper bluing and one of Tom Hellers bottoms. Would be a project though.

Not having the correct period mag hurts it value wise. A wood bottom mag in the same condition as the pistol would run $200-250+

The gun is all matching, and I have put in a request to G.T. for a period magazine. Any other help in finding a period mag would be appreciated. All indications are that it is original, ( Halo on barrel stamps, proper parts in straw, grips stamped with correct number Etc).
