Absolutely - FANTASTIC John! My thanks! Were the spirial busings throughout production of the US&S - or only found in a certain range? Also - looking at the maching of the end of the slide, especially the one on the right - there also seems to be a maching pattern?

Out of a total production of 55,000 pistols, I have only examined maybe 1,000 US&S pistols. Most of the ones that I was sure were original, had the spiral cut bushing. I believe that the rough bushings were supplied by a contractor and that US&S did the final machineing.

The only thing that I know for sure is, nothing is for sure!!!!!!!

Here are the only two US&S M1911A1's I own at the moment, however they come and they go. Nobody has more fun than ME!!!

John, What can you tell me about my US&S Model 1911A ? The serial # is 1870264 and the barrel bushing is not spirial marked. I aquired this through the DCM Program years ago and was disappointed is was not a Colt.

Daniel, the US&S serial numbers were 1041405-1096404. Your serial number indicates the frame was from an Ithaca. Look on the left side behind the trigger opening and just under the slide stop. There will be an "FJA" stamp. All US&S pistols were stamped with an "RCD" in a circle.

What do you think a US&S slide is worth in about 50% condition? My uncle has a .45 he keeps for house protection that I built for him back in the 70's on an Essex frame... I am sure he would trade it to me for a reasonable GI or commercial slide of any manufacture......

I love the .45s... how about a rough value of each to cage my gyro? On my 'wish list' is a WW II 'US property' .45... along w/a few others.

I live only a few miles from the US&S factory, and had a job interview there when I got out of college. Sadly the US&S Swissvale plant is now a strip mall.
