Hi Larry, Welcome to the forum! You have a very nice DWM Military (not Commercial) Luger. When originally issued it had no hold-open, but was retrofitted with one. Regards, Norm

Some 1913 dated Lugers have a unit stamp on the grip, may be yours, too . May I see a picture of the tool, please.

Looking closely at my "prize" with a mag. glass, I found on the bottom of the barrel below the serial number...a stamping that looks like 8,3 3. Anyone know what this means ????? I 'll try to get more pics.....Thanks, Larry

That number represents the measured dimension of the bbl. between the lands. They are usually in the range of 8.81, 8.82, 8.83. Since this I.D. is a little more than a tenth of a mm smaller than the 9mm slug, the lead or jacket gives way this much, causing the slug to ride the lands as it exits the bbl., establishing its spin. I think the middle number is actually a misstamped or deformed 8. Look more closely. On a refinished bbl. sometimes they have been worked down enough that the numbers start to disappear.

It is 8,83 and is the measurement of the bore from land to land, indicating it is a 9mm pistol.

Hah! David types faster than I do...by a whole minute!

Looks like I beat you in sheer volume as well, Ron. But I must remind the readers that it's the quality of the words that matters--not just how many there are!
