Default Luger

Hello to all:
I have my father’s lugar he brought back from the war. I do not have any history of this weapon and my father never gave any information about it, how he got it.
I served in Iraq so I’m sure it wasn’t that difficult back then to bring home war trophies.
This weapon is nickel plated, I know that it lowers the value at least by half. I as m not interested in monetary value as much as I am interested in the history of this piece.
I remember seeing this gun my whole life. My father has since passed away and now I have it.
So if anyone out there could give me an education of this weapon I would appreciate it very much.
Sincerely. James.

Hi, and welcome to the forum. Thank you and your father for your service to our nation.

You have a Mauser made Luger from 1942, made under a Wehrmacht military contract for army usage.

With the plating, it's no longer considered collectible, but remains a family heirloom. Financial value perhaps $800-$1000 depending on what a buyer wants.

We publish a FAQ document with considerable Luger background. Just follow the FAQ link at the top of every forum page.

Thanks for sharing your war trophy luger!

It looks like it was badly pitted all over, so the nickel plated finish isn't surprising or unusual.
Many of those bring back weapons were chrome or nickel plated.

The real damage was the heavy buffing that was done before it was plated.
If you run your fingers along the edges, they won't be sharp or clean.
Most of them have been rounded out and some of the acceptance stamps have been partially rubbed off. The serial numbers are no longer sharp and clear.

It may be a "shooter" class luger, however, similar chrome or nickel plated lugers are selling for $1,500 - $2,500 on-line and in gun stores near me.

You can buy some nickel plated 9mm to display with the pistol and I'd recommend a wooden display box.

But, the bring back story is the really treasure.
Keep it with your father's military record.
