Original stocks?
These are off of my sons byf 41 Luger shown on another thread. NOT a” Black Widow”, as I’ve learned. Sorry for my ignorant remark. Just trying to determine if they’re original. Without tearing the weapon down, all numbers that I can see match, “2703”, with “03” appearing everywhere I can see.

Are the holes threaded. Threaded is good.
Take a paperclip, and heat the end of it. See if it will melt the inside surface of the grip. Melting is bad. If they are threaded, and it doesn't melt they are likely original. The grip types are pictured at this thread on Jan Still's forum: http://luger.gunboards.com/showthrea...bakelite+grips Yours resemble type 5 or 6 grips.

My first post ever here......will the black widow grips you guys are talking about produce a formaldehyde smell when rubbed or exposed to warm water? I recently paid 450 dollars from a reputable dealer on the east coast for a pair of these. I did some Bakelite youtube tests and not picking up on any formaldehyde smell.

Bakelite grips
Hi Lucas, most all of the test usually outlined are somewhat vague? Might give you the results you expect, might not? So, the best test by far that I have found, is the "klink" test? What is that you say, well if you take the two grip panels and LIGHTLY tap them together, you should hear a , light resonating klinking sound if the are real thermal formed phenolic resin (heat / pressure! Bakelite) If they are fake (resin with catalyst), with the same test, you'll hear a dull thudding sound with very little resonance?
Also, the Bakelite grips are a bit heaver then the repros, and a postage scale will show this immediately… BTW, the threaded holes in the back of the grips were to aid extraction from the mold, (no sprues or runners, my opinion???) Good Luck, best, til….lat'r….GT |

I'd sure like to know the name of the "reputable dealer" so I could make him my new hero. |

Thank you George....I have the Russian capture grips that were on the Luger that I bought. 100 percent sure they are bakelite. They have the formaldehyde smell, the clinking noise, and survived your pin test you described. The ones I bought for 400....I just looked and holes aren’t threaded and melted with a hot staple I heated. I already asked the guy for a refund and waiting to hear back from him. He swears there authenticity because he got them from an armores chest(whatever that is). I better wait to mention his company name until he gets back to me. I think I’ve been had😡
