Default Identification help

Please help in evaluating this 40/42 Luger. I am not attempting to start the dreaded "BW" discussion, but can say the grips were on it when veteran returned (family pic). It seems that some say there were a few that did come this way, but its never yours The mag is unmarked metal, so would likely support the idea of some field revisions. Thank you for your time.

A 1940 dated 42 code. Made by the Mauser factory. Looks pretty clean. Would have been made with walnut grips, more than likely. Who knows how the black grips got on there. We weren't there when it happened. Go shoot it and enjoy it.

The black grips are type 1 and there is evidence that type 1 is correct for a 1940-42.
Nice Luger!
