Default Brand New 41 dated barrel extension

All:

I was at a show today and ran across a number of Luger parts. A few interesting things, although I only picked up a couple of numbered firing pin assemblies.

I did run across 2 sets f "black widow" grips. Don't know if they are original, and having trouble downloading the pics off of my camera at the moment.

I have some pics of a 41 dates barrel extension that, to me, looks brand new. However no proof marks on the right side as one would expect on an issued Luger.

Would this be safe to build on? What would be a decent price to pay for this?

Thanks in advance

I believe that this barrel extension has been refinished... and there is no way to tell if it is safe to build on, but unless the gun was in a fire, it should be fine.

Post good clear closeup and well lit photos of the grips you bought, inside and out, and I can tell you if there are originals or reproductions.

John

Thanks. I can email you the original pics; too large to be posted so they were downsized. Let me know. My friend and i saw this together and although we are not Luger experts, we felt this was original. What where the tell-tale signs that tipped you off?

I didnt buy the grips, and unfortunately the pics never turned out. i will be going to the next show and should see them then. What would you pay for nice looking grips even if they were repro (fyi, we saw flash left over around the screw area).

I picked up a couple of firing pins, #'s 04 and 06. i picked them up as spares, but if anyone needs that particular number(s) let me know. he had quite a few firing pin assemblies as well as triggers and a few other parts.

The finish of the upper receiver in your photos looks like it has been reblued because of the "brushed" appearance of the steel and the finish doesn't look much the the byf 41's I have seen. That just could be the lighting in your photos, but my impression is that the finish and lack of acceptance proofs on the right side indicate that this receiver was refinished IMHO.

Alamar, The remnats of flashing on the bottom of the BW grips may be a sign that they are new repros either from Vintage Gun Grips (usually marked "L1" inside) or NC Ordnance (unmarked) and neither really fit the frame well, and are selling in the $25 to $30 range. Original grips with be heavier than the repros and usually have "shinyer" uncheckered borders. TH
