Wonder if Ted could rebuild the "island" on the side plate...?
Why would anyone do that to a side plate ? Regards, Pete... <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" /> |

Top island was probably damaged beyound making it look good so they just ground it down. I would replace the sideplate if it were mine. This is not a bad candidate other than the sideplate for a Thor restore IMO. Barrel bore MIGHT be questionable if you want to shoot it much"????

The description claims that the sideplate is homemade. Before I would suspect that it is just ground, I would want an answer to the question, if one ground the side plate island flush with the plate surface, would one grind through the island?
In any case, side plates can be had (relatively) cheaply, and would be a much simpler solution than a weld build-up. As far as bore condition is concerned, remember, conventional wisdom here is that really ugly Luger bores can be fantastic shooters. I'd say that there is potential here for someone to get a pretty good deal on a shootable LP08. --Dwight |

Dwight, you are surely correct, I have fired Lugers with almost No rifling and they shot great. Some folks just make a lot of a good bore.

I can understand using this Luger for shooting purposes, but it beats me why anyone would want to spend hundreds of dollars on a fine Thor rework job when the bore is so poor.

Note that bid is $375 and reserve is not met. Collectors Firearms in Houston is not noted for their "bargain" prices.
