Default Opinion on a Gunbroker Item

A definite Non Expert ( me) would appreciate an opinion from you gents on gunbroker item153478404. It a 1920 dated Artillery Stock and holster, with straps, mag pouch, etc. I've been looking in my books and a few things came to mind. First, I can't find this holster maker "C. Billep" of Spandau in any of my books. Second, I was under the impression that the Treaty of Versailles outlawed the LP- 08, so I'm wondering what the odds are of such a holster being produced for the Weimar Gov't in 1920. I guess it's also true that that Treaty was ignored at times. Anyway, since the price seems to be north of $2000.00 I'd apprecaire opinion on the authenticy of this item, & whether it is military, police or commercial- thanks Michael

The holster appears to be original but the markings on the holster are bogus. The stock is not original nor are the shoulder strap or mag pouch. The stock attaching leather may be original but the photos of those parts are inadequate.

George, thanks for your opinion. I believe you, but for the sake of learning, is is the date ( 1920) or the "C . Billep" manufacturer thing that makes you think the markings are bogus- thanks Michael

Hi, C. Billep, Spandau, is a listed holster maker. That fact, of course, does not make this rig genuine. Regards

Location of marking is wrong, never seen a 1920 stamp in the holster, only the stock or gun. Crown/S mark was reserved for weapons not leather.

Mike, I took a close look at this ..The whole rig is fake. Holster, leathers, stock, double mag pouch.
The holster looks the best of all of it but it's bad too. I wish I had time to detail all the bogus details but I am too busy.

George knows more about this stuff than I ever will , he's right on every count. Markings can be replicated easily..it's the details of MANY other things that tell you the origins and authenticity.

Take a look at the stock wood to metal fit. Not right at all. If you look at an authentic stock and compare then it will jump out at you.
