The date of manufacture will be found over the chamber. Your gun may have been refinished, but it is a desirable "large S" S/42 pistol. We need to know what the chamber date to see if your straw is correct.

Welcome to the forum. It is difficult to help out when pictures are out of focus, and taken using a flash.

Try to take more photographs using indirect (shaded) light outdoors, and use a tripod. Set your camera for close up (macro) and try to photograph details more sharply.

Google Machine Translation:

The chamber area of your pistol looks heavily damaged. What happened here? Can you read a date in this area?

Your photo's are as you say..not good. The details are what we look for and if they can't be seen..no useable information will be forthcoming.

I have asked the owner, and he has told me that the chamber was holed in the mark of the year . by the Guardia Civil (i don't know how to translate it, it's like Police) when the pistol belonged to his father, because they had not license. After this, his father ordered to restaure the gun and now is usefull. I will get help to take the photos with a reflex, i'm sorry because my english+my photos=disaster

Hi, Based on the proof and inspection marks on the left side of the receiver, I would say that this gun is a G date (made in 1935). It's too bad that the chamber was scrubbed. Enclosed is a photo of a G date left receiver.
Regards, Norm

Hi, These pictures are much more helpful.

Your Luger was made by Mauser in 1935. It was originally a ("K" See note below...) date marked Luger before the chamber damage and repair. You can tell this from the B90 S91 proofs and the shape of the rear of the receiver (no Mauser Hump).

Except for the damage and repair, it looks to be in pretty good condition.

Your pistol is either a rare G or rare K date Luger, which your Guardia Civil destroyed as a collector piece by drilling a hole through the chamber area. Although your friend has apparently welded this hole shut, then growned down the area to profile, I am not sure I would ever consider this pistol safe again. What a shame.

The pistol is certainly worth something. But as a potentially dangerous shooter, people in this country would not offer much more than the value of the sum of its parts as spares.

The serial number indicates it is most likely a K-Date. The magazine if from a G-Date.
