Tools - opinions?

I am buying these from a friend of mines widow.

I think they are good, but they are not expensive. Her son is keeping one and the chipped one I am paying almost nothing.
Bottom one is a east german.

The second left is not correct, the one right is an early DWM.

I think the number five is DDR with grip for the thumb

Do all of the East German tools have the parallel lines on the thumb piece?

I have one like that and it came with a VoPo Luger as I recall.

Thank you Klaus. I have one that I'm certain came with an East German VoPo Luger that I bought years ago but, until now, always thought was a reproduction.

The holster that also came with it is well made but unmarked in any way. IMO it's also East German made but I'm no expert. Pictures below.

The holster looks like a Eger & Linde Schmalkalden made… This maker made holsters for the Luftwaffe, Police and the Totenkopf Verbände.

Wow! Thank you so much, Klaus. I had no idea that it might date to WW2. I thought it may be an East German holster because of the lack of markings.

I understand that it's not conclusive but at least I know it's not a cheap reproduction. Thanks again.

The marker stamp is mostly inside the Holster on the left side

The East German holsters I’ve seen (made during that era) look like a P38 soft shell but has a loading tool pouch.

If I grind the broken one into a shape, will it lose its “temper” / strength?

Not Klaus,
but it won't if you don't over heat it.
Keep a cup of water nearby and cool it as you grind.
Watch the color, you will see straw frist, turning blue, don't go past blue- better to cool and start grinding again and keep it "yellow".

Klaus, I have gone over that holster with a fine tooth comb and examined the area you pointed out with a lighted magnifying glass. There are no identifying marks on it of any kind.

Is it possible that it was intentionally made without markings for a reason? Or, did it somehow mistakenly pass through unmarked and wasn't caught?

I know that many commercial were not marked -and some weren't marked or more likely, stamped with ink and the marking just has gone away IMHO. Ink stampings I think of WW1 era and not WW2 and its definitely a post WW1 design (full leather on back) - but look under the lid for markings - or not and just know you have a army holster.

I've gone over every square mm of that holster, inside and out. I can't find and markings on it whatsoever.

I'm pleased to know that it's original. It came with an EG VoPo Luger in it so apparently the holster was pressed into service by the East Germans until the Lugers were retired from service.
