Default My first P08....

Hi.
At last.... after 10 grueling long days of waiting I was finaly allowed to pick up my first Luger (Mauser) P08.
I'm in love. What a beauty (at least in my eyes)

I've quickly taken some pictures of it, first time I used my wifes new camera.

The first time I saw/shot the gun it had brown plastic grips. They've changed them on my request with wooden grips that were on another 'shooter' they had for sale; I like the wood better.

The gun has #99 everywhere exept for the moving part on top (with toggle) #97, and the sear (abzugstange) which has #21.

What can you, the experts say, about this P08?

Can't wait till tomorrow; when I take it to the range.

Greetings from Peet.

Congrats Pete... a great looking shooter... the best of the wartime Lugers with the exception of the Krieghoff's... it should serve you for many years.

Peet,

I am not one of the experts but it looks like a great shooter luger to me.

Enjoy shooting it!

Peet,

As a "still new" owner of my first Luger, I did a quick tally and found that I've taken 47 photos of my pistol. These are the photos I've chosen to keep, not the one's I've deleted!

Can someone take too many photos of their first Luger?

Who knows?

Peet,
Welcome.
It's probably too late to worry about it but I hope those brown plastic grips weren't off a Krieghoff. The brown plastic grips would be worth something if they were Krieghoffs.

Peet,

Welcome to the Forum. Very nice first Luger. You might want someone to take some photos of you shooting it also. Brent B.

No expert eighter, still in the learning phase..
Sure is a nice shooter!

I actually have the #99 parts you are missing, but then I would have to pick apart a 90% matching byf:\

Peet,

Nice gun. You did well. The barrel is original to the gun. The plastic grips, did they have the DDR Bullseye logo in them?

There were also some badly made plastic grips fitted to guns that came from Russian storage several years ago.

Hi.
Thanx for all your kind words. I'm superhappy with this gun.

Hope not either.... but they looked really 'plastic-like'; like they came from a cheap toypistol. I think (hope) I would recognise bakelite when I see it.... being raised in a time when there were lots of bakelite items around.

I wouldn't mind if you did....

Thanx. Yep, I did notice the barrel is original; that's why I took pics of its witnessmarks.
The brown plastic grips did not have a logo on them.

Greetings from Peet, about to leave for the shooting-range for his first outing with the Luger.

Maybe you can go back and get a picture of those plastic grips. They could very easily be the real thing.

Hello 76 VETTE

Very good looking gun - lots of clear markings...
Your Government, in the Netherlands, is happy about you owning WWII P '08s?
I have a WW I 1917 DWM but here in the UK we (our Gov't) have a problem with WW II P '08s with "bfy" unless they have special unit markings.

Well, don't know if they're happy with it but they do not mind.
I also own a Mauser K98k and it also has these markings; no problem. I think they are realistic enough to see that these markings are things of the past. Not to say that it's allowed to walk on the street with such markings on your jacket... but thats understandable.

Greetings from Holland.
