Default Pricey Plated Pistole Parabellum

Despite predictions that the economy may be going tits up due to high gas prices and the weak dollar, Luger prices are on the rise if non-original pistols are bringing this much. I am thinking the original 60-percent finish S/42 with capture paper and spare magazine I bought for a grand earlier this year was a bargain. I realize there is some interest in plated pistols due to many having been done by vets, but of course there is no proof who plated the pistol and regardless, it is still ruined IMHO. Just my two cents worth, if the buyer is happy, that's all that really matters.

Yeah, I saw that too. I thought about making a bid when I first saw it, at the time it was under $300. But I hate bidding too early so I held off. Amazing it went for over $800.

I don't think that a chromed Luger is "ruined" exactly, but it does greatly reduce the collector value.

well, that makes 10 of us who were 'watching" this. I have bought and sold 3 or 5 nickled / chrome lugers over the last 6 years. I figure if I can pick one up cheap Unless I can get one for around $350 - $500 then I'd rather not, in case I have to resell it when I find something else I want Right now, I just own one nickled luger, always seems like something comes along and I'm short of cashola.

Ed,
Five hundred is the maximum I would pay for it. At $800, that's too close to the price of an original. Despite what I said about plated Lugers being ruined, I still think one would make a cool shooter. It would go great with my nickled Colt SAA. I do hope the buyer is happy with it. After all, you can never overpay for a gun, you just buy it too soon!

Nice piece of alliteration in the opening post...

" Pricey Plated Pistole Parabellum "

If I had bid and won...I could even go...

Thanks Pete,
I work for a newspaper so every once in a while I have a creative thought when it comes to writing. Perhaps you need to buy one of these "pricey Parabellums." Of course, these days, it seems all Parabellums are pricey. I'm thinking about buying a WW I DWM P.08. That version seems to be the least pricey Pistole Parabellum, but I would rather have an Erfurt or a double date.
