Question for Ideal Stock owners...

Looked at one with a hole that was obviously made by the front sight in the front top of the leather. Real good leather too..... The gun must have been carried in the stock/holster. There are more than a few tracks in the top inside to indicate many insertions/removals.

Is this a common problem with these????

I can only reort on the one I used to own, the leather was in only moderately fair condition--solid, but with surface cracks and sueding--but no hole such as you describe.

I can side with Dwight. I have owned 2 stocks and have seen 4 or 5 others, none with a hole as you describe.

My Ideal Stock leather is in very good condition. There are no holes worn in the leather.

I have seen six stocks in various conditions of wear. None of the stocks displayed holes from front sight wear.

I saw one about a decade ago in an ebay auction, that I believe DID have a hole such as you describe. But for my speculation I am relying on memory chips that are as old as I am...

I think that such a hole could develop depending on how roughly and how often the holster was used, and of course the conditions in which it was used and stored. Perhaps the holster gun combination was carried primarily on horseback? that would account for serious wear in such a holster with the gun moving with the up and down shifting of the ride? Again, all of this is pure speculation.

Perhaps an after market front sight, (sharp and pointy) is the culprit?

Here is a typical Heck photo (well known for poor quality) of the affected area. Culprit could well have been an aftermarket sight. None of my guns have a really sharp edge on top...... PJH

The wear seems to have come from the outside in, rather than the inside out?

Doug is correct..It does not seem to have come from the inside but rather from the metal bar above? Either that or it was done on purpose for some nefarious reason.

Doug is correct, the hole has been worn through by the holster rubbing on the rod. The reason that it rubbed on the rod is that there is a lot more wrong with this holster than just the hole. The end of the holster has been shortened and is no longer attached to the hardware that supports it.
