The family would appreciate information. Family member brought back from WWII.

Manufactured in 1915 by DWM for the military. Probably saw service in WWI. Reissued to the state police of Württemberg (Polizei Württemberg) after the war (HWIS pp. 251-2). Probably remained in police service through WWII.

May I know the letter suffix below the serial number on the front of the frame? Also, does or did the gun have a sear and magazine safety?

There is no letter suffix

There is no sear or (the remains of) a mag safety.

The gun will not accept most magazines. They bind right were the grip strap markings are causing one to think the markings were stamped without proper support for the frame.

I tried to get a picture of the grip strap but he was very reluctant. We are still working on a magazine trade so I might yet get that to happen.

The lack of a sear or mag safety is consistent with other P08s from this police force. The P.W. listed on p. 38 of Police Lugers is the early-20s marking for the Prussian police school for Westfalen Province located in Münster. While there is some uncertainty between some of the reported markings with low inventory numbers and those of the Polizei Württemberg, the inventory number of 2572 definitely rules out the police school. While a photo of his marking should also rule out the police school as different formats were used, it really isn't necessary.
