If anyone runs across the book Pete mentions above (A Technical History of The Swiss Luger by Vittorio Bobba) would you please let me know. I would love to aquire it. I have looked and have a couple of book dealers looking but have not come up with anything.

the book sometimes is auctioned on ebay... and costs about what the dealer that Ron mentioned charges in new condition... considering the size and weight of the book, and the fact that starting bids are usually around $100 I would say that IDSAbooks.com's price is pretty reasonable.

I got my copy, new with slip cover, from Ray Riling Arms for $100 about six months ago. Found it through Amazon.com. Great book and well worth the money. Good luck!

Hi Barry, I,ve been sitting here looking at those pics and the condition is to outstanding to be original. With the blue is as nice as it is the cross burst just does not stand out. John and Pete no disrespect just my thoughts. Also I,ve never seen a Luger that old and not see a tad of rust under the grips somewhere.Like I said, just my thoughts; Regards Danny

No worry about any disrespect...all opinions are welcomed.

With the difficulty Barry was having with his camera focus and lighting, it is a bit difficult to see all of this gun's pertinent details.

I thought this one might be original...especially since the condition of the grips and the magazine were, too, very minty...

It is always best to hold a piece in the hand to determine original condition or not...

p.s. I have seen a few AE lugers in person to know that the strike depth of the Eagle sometimes varied with a shallow impression not necessarily a tell-tale sign of a refinish (unless other signs of a refinish are also present...). A local collector (who is not Internet savy...) offered me the nicest M1900 AE, all original luger one could ever find. The Eagle strike depth was only 1/2 the typical depth. There is, in my mind, no question that the gun was/is 100% factory original. I passed on the gun just because of this "cosmetic defect"...and an asking price of $ 5500. At that price, I would want a perfect Eagle strike...
