Little Johns Auction Service in Orange, CA. had auction last week. In the two sessions many of the items were from Stembridge, a company that provided firearms to the movie industry for props. This modified broomhandle Mauser was used in Star Wars. It went for 180K. Someone has too much money.

There are some dumb MF in this world who have no value for money!! Who cares if it was used in Star Wars as a prop. I would take any other rare Mauser C96 for one tenth of the price any day!

There is a term for someone who could and would pay that much money for something like that: useless lumps.
Useless lumps are easily recognized by the amount of publicity they get for accomplishing absolutely nothing. Paris whatshername comes to mind.

This is not surprising. I don't know if anyone caught the television special on the Star Trek auction earlier this year, but there are an awful lot of people with deep pockets and a dedicated collector focus (not unlike collectors of a certain auto pistol we all know and love) who are willing to shell out big bucks for "very special" (and some not so special) one-of-a-kind items.

And I mean big bucks, up to half-a-million of them for the big Star Trek Next Generatioin spaceship prop...

The guns used by the main characters actually fired blanks.
The Stormtrooper rifles were modified Sterlings with 5 or 10 round magazines.
The longer guns were MG34's.

They used blanks so the actors would have some "feedback" when they fired the "lasers".
It also provided a queue to sync the optics in post production.

Before Lucas "fixed" the original movies you could see ejecting brass when they fired and in a couple of scenes you could see brass on the floor.

Of course, if I had the choice between that and 5 1920 and 1902 carbines, well, I'd four wall hangers and a shooter

I just watched the original set of three this last weekend....
