How do YOU judge % of blueing

Give me some pointers on judging how much blueing remains on a gun? The older it gets, it develops a patina that makes the blueing look different I know.

Among rules I have been given:

The muzzle of a luger on the left side--if no crescent of wear it is 98% or better--if a triangle of white worn-away surface it is 95-98% and if there is white appearing through the blue on the barrel shaft it is 94% or less.

The sideplate shows white over 1/3 or more of the high rectangular surface, it is no better than 95%.

The front grip strap is a place I always pay close attention. If worn through or browned finish then I start thinking 90%.

Finally, the rails. I expect about 2mm of white surface on a 98% gun but not much more than 2mm at the front edge.

This is in part based on informal comments from collectors and in part on Blue Book photos which in my opinion seem to be stringent but helpful criteria for grading.
