Default Are these Krieghoff grips?

Good morning,

I was wondering if anyone could determine if these grips are Krieghoff/HRS grips.

They are brown plastic type material and resemble the HRS fine checkered brown grips however they do not have the HRS logo, 8964 number code, or any markings on the backs.
They do have two threaded screw holes on the back.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Regards,

Mike

Mike,

Your grips could be the coarse checkered brown HK grips...not Ritzmann type with their fine checkering and other molded marks on the inside panels.

John D. had posted these photos of real HK brown coarse grips from his 1938 HK luger a while ago on the Luger Forum. Here are his photos to compare with your pair of grips. You might look for his discussion thread on page 2 in the HK luger section titled "1938 Krieghoff " to read his tips for spotting real from fake grips as well :

Thanks Pete.
They look very close to the ones John posted.
Is there a real notciable difference between the fine and coarse grips?
Regards,
Mike

Yes there are...significant differences...

Take a look at the photo album I placed in the Member's Gallery, on page 7, last album...lots of good photos of Ritzmann grips from my S-code HK luger, # 2122.

Mike, the inside of your grips appear to be the same as Gibson shows in his book on page 49 as Black KH 1944 type grips. Unfortunately, they are even making repros of these, so from a photo it's hard to say for sure. Tom

Thanks again Pete.

I guess it's really too hard to tell by comparing photos but my grips definitely have no markings on the inside part.

Mike

Thanks Tom,

I just won a copy of the Gibson book on eBay and look forward to it's arrival.

Mike,

I took your posted jpegs and lightened them up a bit with photo software...I cannot be sure...but they do look like brown and not black grips...see Gibson, page 46 when you have your new book at home.

More importantly...do you own an HK luger ? If yes, we would love to see photos of the entire gun...!!!

Here is a link to LF member, Leon DeSpain's web site showing a pair of really nice Ritzmann grips for sale. As you can see, your grips are not Ritzmann type...

Regards,

Pete...

Hi Pete,

My grips are definitely dark brown. Just not sure if they are righteous.

I contacted Leon and he advised the HRS grips are available and he will hold them for me. Thanks for steering me in his direction.

I recently did acquire a 1936 Krieg and the grips I showed were on it.

I will post pictures when I get my camera fixed. Scanners work fine on flat items like grips but just don't cut it on guns.

Thanks again,

Mike

Hi Mike,

Glad Leon was able to help. I still think your original brown coarse grips are legit...especially if you can see small fibers in the bakelite along the back and if they do not soften up when placed in warm water,

You should have no problem selling or trading them.
