Default Russian Holster

Hello all;

I bought this holster off of e-bay, they said it was Russian, made during or just after the war. It is made from pig skin and is supple and smooth.

I am not overlly worried if it is original or not, but I thought it interesting enough to share.

The stichting is tight and it seems fairly well made.

I have a third picture at http://users.Palouse.com/ttinker/luger/holster3.jpg

I don't know if its a Russian Luger holster but it looks like an artillery holster with its barrel tip reduced for a military Luger. The strap from the front and over the top is a give away. Plus it looks like the barrel tip is squared off to accomodate the new stitching.

The more thaat I looked at your picture the more I thought that something else was wrong. So I looked at an artillery holster of mine and I realised that the strap going from the front and over the top had a button on it. It should have a button hole. The way that it is made, you cannot use the flaps belt loop and there is nothing to hold the top flap down. But the type of button is not clear in your picture so I could be wrong.

This strap was used to attach to a leather piece on the stock and that had the button on it.

I think it is more likely just a copy that they made...

But I like it better than the repro I bought of a black holster.

The leather and color match the Nagant revolver holsters of WW2 I have seen for sale recently. The shape is different so this may be a Russian version of a luger holster from the WW2 period.

The holster is a Russian made, late/post W.W.II holster that was kept as war reserve by the soviet government for intended issue with one of the hundreds of thousands of P-08s that they also had in War Reserves.

The holsters were released for sale at about the same time the Rooskies relaesed the pistols, but not very many have showed up in the west.

Hope this helps,

Tom

Ed, I also bought a few of this same style holster from an eastern block importer and he also called them Russian. The luger does fit, but it's tight. Tom h

I have my 4 inch in it right now and it is a very tight fit. I wouldn't want to count on it as a duty gun, I always wanted my .45 to be snug, but not tight!

Anyway, it is nicer looking than the black repro I bought.

I notice a lot of mint holsters offered on e-bay by Russian sellers. These include Luger, P-38, PP, PPK, HiPower, and many have what looks like authentic dates and markings. But they look very funny in the photos, as the color and shape is not correct. I think they are now making copies for the collector market and offering them as WWII originals.

I had the same one,(in far poorer shape). I bought it because my luger did fit in it, but the luger dealer I bought it from said the holsters were originally made for Polish radom pistols.

Aaron,

I just had a co-worker friend of mine return from a 3 month trip to Russia and he said the stuff being sold has a lot of FAKES in them. The Russians seem to want the German stuff as memories to their "victory". My friend went to as many flea markets as he could and the stuff for sale was as costly as here! They are making as much fake as possible and trying to pass it along as original; even to other Russians!

I would be very careful buying anything from Russia or the other countries nearby.
