1912 Erfurt Unit Marking?
Greetings,
I have the opportunity to purchase a nice 1912 Erfurt P-08 that has what I assume is a Unit marking? It is stamped P.D.G.8. on the front of the grip frame. I am not sure, but I think I can discern that this marking was stamped over another one? I am going to examine it in person Tuesday and would like to know what it means. I appreciate any insight you can give me. Regards, Ron. |

Welcome to the forum.
That specific Luger is listed in Jeff Noll's addendum to "THE IMPERIAL GERMAN REGIMENTAL MARKING" book on page 48. P.D.G.8 is "Gardekorps Zentral-Pferde-Depot Waffe No. 8" or a central horse supply depot for a cavalry Guard unit. |

Yes this is an Imperial Unit mark: "P.D.G.8." is Zentral-Pferde Depot (Central Horse Depot), Guard, Weapon #8. Most probably a Guard Divisional level marking......one of our other members may have better insight into the nature of this unit.
Can't tell from your picture it the marking above was stamped over some other marking. Ron |
