Pete,
Took me a few looks... I kept thinking "what's wrong with this picture" and drew a blank. Looks like original finish, straw a little light, high point wear. Looks OK to me, but what do I know. Was just about to post asking what was wrong with the description then scrolled up to the title, Erfurt, toggle is DWM. Good eye!

Hi Tim,

Yeah...I thought this was an exciting one when I saw it...

My bet is that it is legit, as well...but will wait for our LP-08 folks to chime in...

I would guess that you won't see much bidding until the very end on this one...

Good to see you on the Forum...do not recall if you ever posted any Luger photos of your collection ?

p.s. I did send the seller a note about the "Erfert" thing...would hate to see his auction in dispute regarding an erroneous description...

Regards,

Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />

Pete, you needn't take it upon yourself to help the poorly educated out there. Leave it to the democrats.

The idea is to take advantage of their ignorance and buy stuff cheap.

Fellows, The holster has been ruined. You will notice he says it has been "modified" and if you look closely at the one photo he has of the back of the holster with the pistol laying on top you will see there are two lines and the stock block is missing. This indicates to me someone has cut the back for instant belt loops. BAD. Jerry Burney

Hi Jerry,

I agree... BAD, but not for the reason you cited... I think it is a poorly modified holster, but not cut through...

Please address my comments on this
marked up photo and tell me if I am off base on my evaluation of the holster...

Thanks a bunch for humoring this amateur analysis from a guy who has learned much from you...

John,
I still read here (and Still's site) every day or so to learn about holsters and such... I'll let the guys that have a clue tackle that one.

Pete,
I registered here a couple of years ago when I inherited an S/42. I thought I'd won the lottery. After some investigation, it turned out it was a mis matched VOPO dip re blue, but it sparked my interest. I have a couple of shooters from Thor that are beautiful and always get looked at when at the range. I do have a couple that I don't shoot as they are probably worth more in un injured condition.
I am a terrible photographer. I haven't posted photos as they always come out looking substantially better or worse than the actual piece shows. Maybe one of the guys who always have good photos could post a how to, or what to do and not do to make the pictures match the gun.
If I ever get the digital photo thing right, I'll put up an album.

Hi Tim,

I got a nice reply from the auction/seller that she went ahead and made the correction to "DWM"...and she also said they have a Erfurt double date also for sale...

Digital photo work for me has been trial and error...both getting used to a camera, scanner, and several photo editing applications.

Most of the time in my photos the guns look too "blue". I use Ulead photo-editing software to correct the color of the background fabric I use when setting up for my photos. If I get the color of the background fabric 100% correct, the color of the gun also falls right in line.

p.s. I hope a LF member wins the LP-08 auction...it seems like a very nice 1916 piece...

Regards,

Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />

It seems like a righteous 1916 and the current price of $1825 seems to me to be within the range for it. Too bad that John's outstanding display of the holsters faults shows that the bidders should ignore the holster when conjuring up their bid price. Bidders should remember that this Luger does not have a matching mag. So don't get too carried away in your bidding.

Thanks John for another excellent and unquestionable display of computer work in making your point.

thanks Big Norm, but let me caveat my posting by saying that all this is based on very limited photographic evidence...

I wish that more photos would have been available, but I don't have time to communicate with the seller because of limited time and the rig is WAY out of my league in pricing...

Let me share this note from Jerry Burney that I received via email over the weekend... Jerry stated that he has been having some trouble posting lately... and communicated this to me directly.

</font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana,Tahoma,Arial,Helvetica,Geneva">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana,Tahoma,Arial,Helvetica,Geneva">is the case.

The hinge is quite correct. It is the WW1 seperate hinge.

The stitching you are seeing for a post production belt loop may be the stitching to attach the pull-up strap to the top edge of the holster. You may be correct as it is not quite where it should be, slightly off to the left and a little low....This stitching to hold the end of the pull-up strap is generally found in the hinge stitching.

You have the stock leather circled on the wrong side of the holster. From the front, the stock block will appear on the right top side of the inside. The stock block comes within a half inch of the left side of the back. Some I have seen come pretty close to the edge. On the side you have circled there is nothing.

I would write and get better photo's but I am working 12 hours a day stitching repairs! </font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana,Tahoma,Arial,Helvetica,Geneva">thanks Jerry for your expert input on this holster...

Dog gone! Did I miss on my estimated range for this artillery or what. The final bid is $3026 (not including S&H). I thought that the gun was a good gun but that price seems awfully high. Maybe all those joke prices of $150,000 for some Kreighoff on AuctionArms might be right.
