LUGERS+COWBOYS

I recently read about a turn of the century [1900] cowboy who ended up in Central/South America as a Merc. He wore TWO .30 cal Lugers in standard old type quickdraw holsters.

His name was Lee Christmas. Has anyone else heard of him?

A Kathy Lee Christmas,...

Somehow I don't think any of them were merc's in south/central America...

In a book called "Guns and Gunfighters" by the editors of Guns and Ammo (1975, Bonanza Books, New York) On pg 205 there is a picture of a deputy sherrif with a Luger shoved down into his old single action Colt double loop holster. His clothes and tie look about 1910. There ain't no Reindeer though, so it probably is not Mr Christmas

In the western museum in Miles City, Montana there is an American Eagle with the old single action holster it came with.

I don't know about his guns but he was a railroad engineer who was released for color blindness and settled in the Honduras (Central America). He was a mercenary around the turn of the century and became an aid to a government official there. He served in that capacity for several decades and married a Honduran woman. I am not sure what ever became of him. There are several books written about his exploits but I have not read them and it would be interesting to find a picture of him with his weapons.

you might check out a book called 'TRIGGERNOMETRY' By Eugene Cunningham which was published in the '30s by Caldwell Press and republished by Caxton Press in the 70s.

You will find a Chapter on Mr. Christmas

I thought that "Triggernometry" was the autobiography of that famous horse in the movies.

An autobiography is one penned by the person the book is about, a biography is penned by another... as it is well known that Trigger was dyslexic, and a TERRIBLE SPELLER, "Triggernometry" must have been a biography of him. I hope that helps.
