Default ..another newbie question..

.
yes, I've searched but.....no joy

Magazine interchangeability : can the 9mm Luger mag be used in a 7.65 pistol, and vice versa ?

I've ordered a couple from Greg Cote and am curious as I'll be getting both pistols

thank you

I'll add it to the FAQ in the part that discusses both .30 Luger and 9mm Luger caliber guns and determining a pistol's cartridge.

Regarding magazines I wondered if that was originally intentionally or just luck that both fit? What was the earliest that 9mm was chambered. What about prototypes? Can a 7.65 be fired in a 9mm?

Eric, nominally intentionally, your Fat Barrel is one of the earliest 9mm (can't tell you about prototypes), and no-- a .30 Luger round will fit, but go in too far. Maybe a .30 would fire in a 9mm chamber, if the gun were pointed straight up!

HOWEVER - some mags are tighter in some guns - I have had some police mags (flat follower type) that will fit in very few guns.

Most mags will fit just fine and either cartridge in either, but just keep it in mind that even in WW2 these were still hand fitted guns.

Thank You All~ Talk about a genius! Why is 7.65 ammo so much more costly than the 9mm even at Walmart?

Dave I love my chubby barrel and never want to fire it! I put you in my will!

I just had my loader fixed by GT. A pivit screw broke on my first try. Do both calibre fit a loader equally well?

They do. Note how the loader is involved only with the bottom of the shell when you press the handle. The bases of both rounds are the same. The 9mm Luger round was created by extending the .30 Luger's base all the way--just eliminate the bottleneck to allow for a larger bullet.

Remember that the 9mm is basically a "necked up" 7.65. The case right up to the bottleneck is identical to the 9mm.

Eric,
do you have the three volume 1800 page book Pistole Parabellum from Goertz and Sturgess?
If not they make great reading, have super pictures and answer more questions than even you can think of!

Bill, I have the heavy, three volume that is packed away as we are moving in 3 weeks~ I hate moving! "Don't count on it!" ? Books don't always address a question! That if why there are always new books. There are no bad questions only bad answers~ I ask because I don't know or remember because of my stroke! They are trying a new experimental medicine that might slow it down although I'm told it cannot reversed! Please be kind and work with me~Eric
