Default Another 'first Luger' question...

Are there more 'shooter' grades available in one model more than another?

Is there any Luger model that a newbie should 'stay away from'?

I have my WTB here and in a few other places, and I'm waiting (well, semi-patiently)!

Thanks,
Bill

Most shooters stick with the 9mm guns for cost reasons. Some say that a later Mauser guns might be slightly more metallurgically sound for shooting, but that is probably open to speculation and debate.
Shooters come in all shapes and sizes. Generally anything that is mismatched and or refinished or altered gets lumped into that category unless it has other redeeming qualities.
Ane those once uncollectable may become collectable as different blood comes into the game.
Early guns, 1900 and 1906, may be better fondled than shot (alot). IMHO.
My 3 shooters include a 1936 Mauser, a mismatched Navy and a mismatched Artillery. They all get their day at the range in rotation.

I think that David refers to the later WW-II era military proofed Mauser pistols... The 1941 byf mismatch I have and the 1937 almost matched may be my best shooter grade Lugers.

Mauser (and others) manufactured Lugers for commercial sale after WW-II.

You may still find Russian Capture pistols of this era that are reasonably priced. They become available from time to time...
