Default Help on 1942 Luger

Gents, this one has come up for sale and would like a thumbs up or down on it. Its a 1942 luger which I think is actually in very good condition, not sure about the grips they look a bit stripey bur as a new boy to this game this looks one of the better ones I have seen for sale. Anyone any opinions? Sorry I have to use the link but the site will not allow pics to be saved

I would think you are limited in the UK - so I would find out what era you are most interested in.

WW1
Weimar
WW2

civilian, military (army or navy) or police
contract for another country or made for germany

than purchase something in that era

Edward, to be honest I am thinking of trying to get a nice example luger for the war years, 1914-18 and 1936-43 and then maybe go from there

Looks like an honest gun to me. I do question the grips, however, as there were both wooden and plastic grips during that time. And I'm not certain if all were numbered, but if those are numbered but not matching, then there is a problem.

The grips look like original grips, which were very worn and someone "freshened" the checkering. Note that near the edges they are inconsistent and there are areas, (like the closeup near the sideplate) where it looks like the freshening cuts weren"t quite true to the original line.

Doug, I'm not seeing that. Rather, many of the diamonds are flat on top--check out the right side grip--and the area you mention looks undisturbed to me. I think what you're seeing is that the crossing sets of lines are not cut to the same depth, and the ones that go l.l. to u.r. need to be deeper. Notice also that the edge of the left grip along the front strap is not completed, there is un-cut wood about 3/16" before the pattern starts. I posted a big blah-blah about checkering the other day, and I think this falls into the "good enough" category of wartime Q.C.., if these are original.
