DWM Identification & value

I have a chance to buy a Luger from a friend of a friend. I'll try to describe it the best I can. Its a DWM 6in. barrel with 100 & 200 sights the mag. has a M and serial number of pistol & ringed sides. The numbers all match and are in the hidden position there are no proof marks on the right or left side of receiver or the barrel the only proof I can find is on the front toggle on the left side it looks to be (N with a crown and maybe a cross on top of the crown). It has wood grips but no numbers on them. Its a 30 cal. and is maybe 75% overall. He wants 2500.00 and I thought it seemed pretty high so I thought I'd see what you guys thought. John

There is no grip safety and the GESICHERT is hidden with the safety lever in up position

It sounds like you have a Navy P04 or a commercial 1920 Navy model. But the mag sounds like a pre 1917 P04 Navy mag. Photos would help.

Unless it is a fake, the price sound about right, but Photos are needed

And almost any, nice luger is $1500+ Any really nice luger is more than that...

everything depends on model, type

Please report the complete serial number, with letter suffix if present. This is crucial information in order to answer your questions.

I'm just getting in to lugers I thought the commercials had 5 digit serials numbers

I believe that, and I'm no expert, that the commercial could go up into the 5 digit range, once it passes the 9999th unit.

I looked at the pictures you posted on Jan Still's forum.

The pistol's serial number is 7056p.

The frame is that of a P08 alphabet commercial made about 1926.

The receiver and toggle assembly appear to be Imperial navy parts probably from 196-1917. All markings--chamber date and proofs--have been removed. The absence of German commercial proofs and any GERMANY export marking suggest that the barrel was replaced long after the gun left Germany.

The magazine has been re-stamped to no known official standard.

The asking price for the pistol as presented is $1,300 too much.

That helps a lot I was leary of the pistol although it seemed to be priced to high I'll pass on this one

Umm...almost ANY decent mismatched Luger is worth about 700.00....a real Navy rear sight's worth about 500.00....with the added shootability of a 6in barrel, I don't think 1300.00 is a crazy price.
