Making new leather look old/used

I don't want to spend big dollars for an original luger holster. So, I may buy a repro in black leather. Since my luger is dated 1939 I would like to make the new leather look old/worn. How may I do this? Thank you for your replies.

When we wanted to 'age' a new AR-15 receiver to look old, we'd tie a string to it and drag it a mile behind our pickup truck...

Should work on leather too...

NOTHING will age a cheap Pakistani repro holster into ANYTHING but a cheap Pakistani repro holster that is aged.

Personally I would throw it in the dryer with a cinder block..be sure to use the HIGH HEAT setting.

No really..why subject your tender sensibilities and those who might see you have such a thing to abuse?

Buying a nice ORIGINAL Luger holster is not going to COST you a thing! You are only going to be banking the money for when you sell.

You will get to enjoy it for many years instead of developing a stutter whenever you try to explain why you foolishly wasted 29.95 on a cheap Pakistani repro holster.

Do your self a favor...let a Pakistani starve. Don't encourage such a waste of cow peelings.

2: Abuse it.

Spray a little rubbing alcohol on the surface of the bag, using a spray bottle, or lightly apply rubbing alcohol, using a toothbrush. The bag should be damp but not drenched: the alcohol will dry it out in points and help create a weathered look.
Rub sandpaper on the leather to give it a worn look. Sandpaper with a fine grade works best. Focus on portions of the jacket apt to see a lot of wear, such as the bottom, the corners and the handles. You can apply the sandpaper to other locations in order to represent casual damage but take care not to overdo it. Some parts should look worn and others shouldn't be touched at all.
Apply a wire brush to the bag in the same manner you applied the sandpaper. Center on natural wear spots like the bottom corners and high-touch areas, with variations here and there to give it a naturally aged look.
Go to a sand box in a nearby playground, wad the jacket up into a ball, and kick it around in the sand. Pick it up, dust off the excessive dirt, and then repeat the process one or two more times.
If you have access to a long driveway or a private length of dirt road, tie two lengths of twine to the bumper of your car and duct tape the other ends to your bag. Pull the bag up and down the roadway with your car, checking often to ensure that it's not becoming too aged. This method also works with a bicycle on a dirt trail. Make sure the leather side is facing the road, not the interior shell.

Just remember..NOTHING will age a cheap Pakistani repro holster into ANYTHING but a cheap Pakistani repro holster that is aged.

I've looked at original beat up holsters missing straps and loose stitching at $100 or more which would requier a couple hundred more to repair. Besides, I'm not buying a Pakistan repro! I believe the one I'm looking at is made in India. 8-/

Some times the repro holsters are a little small, and a pistol is a very tight or impossible fit.

You can look at/for more original holsters, they are out there in use-able shape for $100; though I'm not sure if you want one to use or to look at ?

I often see "used" reproductions also.

I used to own a CMR sourced holster. Charles Roscoe (the C and R in CMR) is a member of this forum. The holster I owned was a proper fit, good quality construction and obvious that it was not an original...

Try looking at their available holsters would be my recommendation. Even if they are made in Pakistan, they look serviceable and I think he has a money back guarantee... CMR is based in the UK.

Hi Don,
The way they age wood in the furniture business is to whip the piece a few times with chains, the kind you would use for a garden swing, and then drill some worm holes, 3/32" is about right. Finish up with some wax polish.
